The writing of this story correlated with complete crazy!time at work, and I owe so much gratitude to china_shop for taking on this beast of a story at a late hour, and making an epic effort betaing it into shape. After finishing my studies, I've decided to go travelling a bit before starting work (as a certified nurse, yikes, how come I don't feel like one?). My travels are going to bring me to the Seattle/Vancouver area, approx. between September 7th and 10th. If there are any fangirls in that area who would like to meet up for a cup of coffee and a chat, I would love to meet some of the fabulous people who's fiction and meta, and sometimes life stories, I've been reading about for the last four years :)

Summary: Joe boards the ship in Vancouver, carrying a plastic bag containing five cartons of cigarettes, one for each week, four one-liter bottles of vodka and the ten grams of weed that he could afford after that. Billy's Zippo in his pocket.
Author's notes: So, this is very, very AU. Set somewhere during the late seventies/early eighties, when the guys are just out of their teens. Joe joins the crew of a fishing boat. I've taken great liberties with factual stuff - pretty much all inspiration to this story came from this incredible music video by the talented (and slightly bonkers) Icelandic art trio Ingenfrygt.
Many, many thanks to akamine_chan for her wonderful beta work, and for a couple of sentences that work so much better than my original own :)
